Sponsored Posts

In the interest of full disclosure, I have begun to accept offers from companies and individuals to write sponsored posts. These are paid-for posts and the advertiser understands that endorsements cannot be bought, but paid reviews can be. In other words, they will accept the possibility that I do not like their product and won’t recommend it.

The reason for taking an aggressive tone such as this is because if company X came and asked me to write a positive review of their product, a couple things occur:

  1. I can be equally bought by a competing product and the sponsor can lose credibility.
  2. I no longer speak with credibility as a spokesperson for the product.
  3. I no longer have credibility with my readers.

So I agree to do paid reviews of products, I do not agree to a positive review. In addition, links are assigned a rel=”nofollow” tag that prevents the products from gaining PageRank from my blog. Sponsors can pay additional to benefit from PageRank since blog entries remain in blog archives forever.

I will also be setting the sponsored entries apart visually to prevent misunderstanding between what is a paid review and what is normal flow of content.

It’s just another way to monetize. If you’re interested in purchasing sponsored posts here at Technosailor, please email me at aaron [at] b5media [dot] com.

This seems like an interesting way to monetize a blog. Are you planning on posting a review on these sponsored posts?

As in, am I planning on talking about how this program does in terms of monetizing? Probably at some point if I have enough interest from folks to take out paid advertising. As of now, there is one sponsored entry up and thats all I have lined up.

My goal is certainly not to advertise on behalf of people. It certainly isn’t the focus of what I’m doing. However, sprinkling some sponsored posts in might build some revenue.

I think this is a pretty good idea, as long as you’re still being impartial with regards to the outcome of the review. Looking forward to see how it works out.
