“Being in a bar does not exempt one from the state laws against public drunkenness” — Carolyn Beck, Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission

Priceless absurdity from a story in Reuters about people in Texas being arrested for being drunk in a bar.

It’s very stupid. I understand they want to reduce the risk of drunk driving, but I imagine there are more important matters the police should be dealing with than waiting around for someone to start making a fool of themselves in some bar.

This is why public intoxication is a stupid law. We already have disorderly conduct and DWI, which seems to take care of the reasons you’d normally arrest someone for PI. If you’re drunk in a bar, not making a fool of yourself, and not driving home I don’t see what the problem is.

In the immortal words of Ron White: “I wasn’t drunk in pub-lick. I was drunk in a bar and they put me in pub-lick… :)

I get the feeling that we’re getting back to prohibition again…..

If it isn’t with smoking, the next target will be booze again….

And they say history doesn’t repeat itself LOL
